  Industry Updates

China steps up efforts for minor protection

The Cyberspace Administration of China recently released a draft of the guidelines for minors’ access to mobile internet to solicit public opinions, where the current “teen mode” will be upgraded to “minor mode”. The guidelines aim to expand the coverage of the mode from apps to mobile smart terminals and app stores, to achieve three-party coordination of software, hardware, and services, and enable users to easily switch to the mode with just one click, creating a safe and healthy online environment for minors.

US power shortages impede AI development: Musk

Tesla CEO Elon Musk recently made multiple open statements that the power supply system of the US is in urgent need of upgrading. He predicted that the US will fall short of electricity rather than of silicon, which may impede AI development.

Germany plans to allocate €20 billion subsidies to chip industry

Germany plans to invest around €20 billion in the semiconductor industry in the coming years, attracting global chip manufacturers to build factories in Germany. Intel will receive nearly €10 billion in subsidies, while the rest will go to chip manufacturers such as Infineon, Bosch, and TSMC.

Quantum computers identify single nucleotide for 1st time

Japanese scientists separated adenosine monophosphate nucleotide from three types of other nucleotide molecules by using quantum computers. This was the first time that a quantum computer has been used to measure single molecules, which proves that the computer has great potential in genome analysis.

AI synthesizes antimicrobial molecules of human ancestors

Scientists from the University of Pennsylvania used artificial intelligence (AI) to analyze the protein data of modern humans, as well as their distinct relatives, Neanderthals and Denisovans. They identified and synthesized the molecules of the latter which could kill pathogenic bacteria.

BMW China team initiates L3 level autonomous driving localization development

The BMW Group is accelerating the development of L3 level autonomous driving, with global plans to launch it by the end of 2023 or early 2024. The BMW China R&D team has also initiated localization development of L3 level autonomous driving.

Japanese company to sell 3D-printed houses

Japanese company Serendix, aiming to mass-produce 3D-printed houses, has successfully created single-story houses. The company uses a printer manufactured in China to output components, which are then assembled using heavy machinery.
