  WIC "AI For Good" Program calls for submissions

  To further promote the global application of AI technology for the benefit of humanity, the World Internet Conference (WIC) has initiated the "AI For Good" Program, to collect public welfare programs on the application of AI technology in culture, education, health, barrier-free services and other fields. The WIC will select typical programs to form the "World Internet Conference Artificial Intelligence For Good Action Plan", and hold a launch ceremony during the World Internet Conference Nishan Dialogue on Digital Civilization, which will be held from June 25 to 27.   UNESCO holds global meeting of Ministers of Education on generative AI

  In face of the rapid development of powerful generative artificial intelligence (AI), UNESCO held a global meeting of Ministers of Education to exchange views on the opportunities, challenges, and risks that AI applications bring to the education system in both the present and the long term.

  Chinese government releases 1st edition of guidelines for filing standard contracts for cross-border transfer of personal information

  To guide and assist personal information processors in filing their standard contracts for the cross-border transfer of personal information, the Cyberspace Administration of China has compiled the first edition of guidelines for filing standard contracts for the cross-border transfer of personal information, providing specific requirements regarding filing methods, procedures, and documentation.

  2023 Zhongguancun Forum announces 20 major technological achievements

  The Special Press Conference of Major Scientific and Technological Achievements of the 2023 Zhongguancun Forum was held in Beijing, China, on May 30. A total of 20 major technological achievements were announced, spanning such fields as large-scale models, chips, new materials, and new energy.

  South Korea passes designation motion for national advanced strategic technology

  On May 26, South Korean Prime Minister Han Duck-soo presided over the second government meeting of the committee for the national advanced strategic industry, which passed a motion to designate biotechnology as a new national advanced strategic technology. The motion also included nuclear power and defense technology in the discussion scope of national advanced strategic technologies.

  AI passes advertising Turing test for 1st time

  According to the website of the New Scientist magazine, AI-generated advertisements performed better than typical American print ads in a test that measured creativity and the ability to evoke emotional responses.

  Toyota claims potential leak of customer information in some countries

  On May 31, the Toyota Motor Corporation announced that due to a cloud configuration error, customer information of certain countries in Asia and Oceania may have been accessible to the public between October 2016 and May 2023. The exposed information includes names, addresses, and phone numbers.

  IBM CEO advocates for “precision regulation” of AI

  According to Nikkei Asia magazine's website, Arvind Krishna, CEO of the International Business Machines Corporation (IBM), stated that artificial intelligence (AI) will create new business opportunities and drive economic growth, creating new jobs. He called for "precision regulation" of different AI use cases, rather than attempting to impose "blunt regulation" on the technology as a whole.

  Twitter seeks to withdraw from Code of Practice on Disinformation. No way to escape regulation: EU

  According to the German Press Agency, Twitter may withdraw from the EU's Code of Practice on Disinformation. Thierry Breton, Commissioner for the Internal Market of the EU, warned that even if Twitter withdraws from the code, it cannot escape the regulation. The European Commission released the Code of Practice on Disinformation in 2018, which was the first industry-wide initiative for self-regulation against disinformation.

  US gives green light for Neuralink, a company developing brain-computer interface, to conduct first human trials

  Elon Musk's neurotechnology startup, Neuralink, has received approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to conduct its first human clinical trials. This milestone event comes after facing difficulties in obtaining approval for the application.
