　　Secretary-General Ren Xianliang meets with Zhang Caifang, Director of the Cyberspace Administration of Zhejiang Province

　　On April 18, Secretary-General Ren Xianliang met with Zhang Caifang, Director of the Cyberspace Administration of Zhejiang Province and they had an in-depth exchange on the hosting of the 2023 World Internet Conference (WIC) Wuzhen Summit. Ren Xianliang pointed out that, with the strong support of CPC Zhejiang Provincial Committee and Zhejiang Provincial People’s Government over the years, the WIC Wuzhen Summit had grown into a key platform for promoting extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits in Internet and advancing the exchanges and cooperation in digital economy. “The 10th year is a critical juncture of great commemorative significance to the WIC as an international organization,” Ren said. The WIC would work with Zhejiang to mobilize resources from different communities to advance the preparation and organize a more productive and distinctive international event. Zhang Caifang said that as this is the 10th year of WIC Wuzhen Summit, the provincial government of Zhejiang attached great importance to this event. Zhejiang would make sound planning for the organization of the Summit, strive to advance the preparations in all aspects, and lift the organization of the event to a new level.

　　WIC holds planning meeting on its 2023 major event

　　On April, the Secretariat of the World Internet Conference (WIC) held a planning meeting on the 2023 WIC Wuzhen Summit in Beijing. Representatives from WIC member companies, such as Intel, IBM, Tesla, Coca-Cola, Qualcomm, SAP, Nokia, and Lego (listed in no particular order), attended the meeting. Representatives discussed the theme, topics, and highlight activities of the Summit based on the latest trends in internet development and governance. The attendees said they would fully support and actively participate in various activities and work together to make this Summit a spectacular global internet event.

　　WIC submits proposals for Global Digital Compact to the UN

　　The World Internet Conference (WIC), along with 15 companies and institutions, submitted five proposals to the Office of the Secretary-General’s Envoy on Technology, including digital connectivity, data protection, the governance of discrimination and misleading content, AI regulation and digital commons, under the framework of the Global Digital Compact (GDC). By gathering suggestions from relevant parties around the world and building consensus on global digital development, the GDC strives to establish a platform for a more open, safer and freer development of digitalization. The GDC will be deliberated at the ministerial meeting for the UN Summit of the Future in September 2023, and is expected to be agreed at the Summit of the Future in September 2024.

　　WIC members attend the first BDS/GNSS Global Partner Forum

　　The 13th China Satellite Navigation Conference (CSNC 2022) was held in Beijing, China from April 26 to 28, 2023, to which WIC members such as IBM, China Arab TV, and Lenovo were invited. Under the theme of “Digital Economy, Intelligent Navigation”, the Annual Conference organized 22 academic exchanges and high-level forums, covering Achievement Expo and science popularization activities. During the Conference, representatives from WIC and its members attended the first BDS/GNSS Global Partner Forum and engaged in exchanges on industry applications, multilateral cooperation and international education of BDS. Six co-chairs of the Forum drafted, signed and released the Joint Initiative of BDS/GNSS Global Partners.

　　On March 16, Qualcommannounced the new Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 Mobile Platform, delivering a unique premium experience to the Snapdragon 7-series. It introduces many popular and superior features to the Snapdragon 7-series for the first time, including performance improvements in CPU, GPU, AI and energy efficiency. It features long-lasting smooth gaming experiences, dynamic low-light photo capture and 4K HDR video capture, AI-enabled enhancements, high-speed 5G and Wi-Fi connectivity. The performance has been significantly improved across the system. Commercial devices equipped with Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 would be released since March.

　　The “Computing Power Routing” Working Group promoted by China Mobile over the past four years was recently approved for establishment by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), an international internet standards organization. The Working Group (WG), chaired by China Mobile, would be responsible for the proposal and development of standards related to “computing power routing”. The technical direction of “computing power routing” was supported by more than 40 incumbent operators, equipment vendors and universities worldwide, such as France Télécom, Telefonica, Verizon, and Huawei. With their support, the WG was finally approved for establishment, which represented the recognition of the technical direction of China’s computing power routing network by one of the premier global internet standard organizations. It is also a groundbreaking step towards the international standardization of original computing power network technology.

　　On March 21, the exhibition of HONOR Talents Global Design Competition was held in Beijing, displaying 54 award-winning works and art installations from a dozen countries, including China, Malaysia and France. The exhibition was attended by Mr. Siddharth Chatterjee - UN Resident Coordinator in China, Mr. Sanmugan Subramaniam - Minister of the Embassy of Malaysia in China, Mr. Wu Yabin - Director of UNIDO ITPO Beijing, Ms. Wang Xiaohui - an internationally renowned crossover artist, and envoys from multiple countries. The HONOR Talents Global Design Competition is committed to empowering the youth and exploring the beauty of innovation featuring the combination of technology and art. The Competition was launched in more than 40 countries in 2022, receiving more than 7,000 submissions from 164 universities.

　　On April 3, Lenovo Group announced that “Silk Aluminum” 5L52, which was jointly developed with Chinalco Ruimin, passed the national standard approval and became a new national standard brand. It is expected to be used by 8 million Lenovo notebooks this year. Before the birth of the “silk aluminum” material, the aluminum and magnesium alloy plate brands in GB/T 3190 Standard, which were based on the material numbering of former Soviet Union, the United States and Japan, had been used for decades. The new self-developed aluminum material – “Silk Aluminum” 5L52 was numbered into the GB/T 3190 National Standard, becoming the first new national standard brand for Chinese original aluminum alloy plate in the 3C field.

　　On April 4, IBM introduced new IBM z16 and LinuxONE 4 single frame options to help SMEs improve the flexibility, sustainability and security of their data centers. Continuing z16’s innovations in AI inference at scale and quantum cryptography, the new single frame configurations expand client infrastructure choices. Its advantages in space, sustainability and standardization are paramount to a modern data center environment. Compared with x86 servers with similar conditions and location, it can reduce energy consumption by 75% and space by 67%. It is designed to help clients reduce their carbon footprint and achieve their sustainable development goals.

　　On April 9, the signing ceremony of Tesla’s Megafactory Project was held in Shanghai, and the Project was officially settled in Lingang, Shanghai. Tesla’s Megafactory plans to produce Tesla’s ultra-large commercial energy storage batteries (Megapack), and the factory is scheduled to start construction in the third quarter of 2023 and kick off production in the second quarter of 2024. The signing of Tesla’s Megafactory Shanghai Project means that besides its EV business, Tesla’s energy storage business will see even faster growth. This cooperation will provide better energy replenishment services for Tesla’s EV business while providing better products and services for Tesla users in China and even across the world.

　　The 2023 Intel Sustainability Day was held in Beijing on April 12, and Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger delivered a keynote speech with the theme of “Sustainable Computing for a Sustainable Future”. He stressed that Intel was advancing the goal of sustainable development through systemic change, technological innovation and industry-wide cooperation. On that day, Intel demonstrated how to work with eco-system partners to promote the standardization of cold plate cooling solutions and Green Data Center Technology Framework 2.0.

　　On April 15 - the 8th National Security Education Day, QAX joined the “April 15 National Security Education Day on Campus” activity organized by the National Security Office of Beijing Xicheng District Committee of the CPC and the Education Work Committee of Xicheng District, bringing a security-themed education class to teachers and students of Beijing No. 4 High School. Without cybersecurity, there will be no national security. 　　On April 15, the results for the hardware encoders of MSU Video Codecs Comparisons 2022 organized by Moscow State University were officially announced. Kuaishou’s StreamLake - 200 or SL200, its first self-developed intelligent video processing System on Chip (SoC) product, won the first place in 7 out of 12 indexes in all three tracks, and was the only encoder that made its way to the top two positions in all three tracks, showing the chip’s excellent encoding performance and wide application range in the industry, especially in high-quality and high-density scenarios. It could support up to 8-channel 4K@ 60fps conversion, reaching the industry’s leading level.
